The University of Macerata was founded in 1290 and it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its main activities are focused on the humanities and social sciences.

Students are offered a broad range of courses supported by state-of-the-art services, including undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, Master’s and Ph.D. programmes, specialisation schools and summer schools in cultural heritage, economics, philosophy, law, arts and humanities, languages, linguistic mediation, communication, education, political science and tourism.

The Giacomo Leopardi School of Advanced Studies offers excellent multidisciplinary teaching programmes for young and talented students. Thanks to the local Confucius Institute, the University of Macerata plays a leading role in promoting Chinese language and culture.

Over the last few years the University has developed a multicampus structure, with some programmes located in the town of Jesi, but with most of its facilities and activities hosted in the open main campus within the city of Macerata.
